Commotion is an open, yet secure, circumvention tool to create decentralized mesh networks. We collaboratively developed the tool with The New America Foundation’s Open Technology Initiative and other partners.
The Commotion field team has been working with community wireless organizers around the globe to test the software and explore effective planning methods. We worked with the field team to develop a set of educational units and modules called the Commotion Construction Kit that helps people plan and build decentralized wireless networks. Our print materials include games, sample surveys, reproducible flyers, and easy-to-use instructions designed under a simple and cohesive visual identity. These modules will be used in community teaching environments around the world. The first international use of the kit was in Dharamshala, India.
