After seeing the power of our ongoing work with Allied Media Projects, the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice approached us to design the identity for their LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex) international media justice conference called CommsLabs in Kenya. In our collaboration, we designed a new brand for CommsLabs and developed an array of campaign materials for their Kenya conference. Working with global organizations like Astraea is important and helps showcase how our Detroit-based human-centered design process has worldwide impact.
Our approach to framing the identity emphasizes the grassroots mobility of the LGBTQI community, which is illustrated in the CommsLabs conference itself. Our brand speaks with bold messages and vibrant visual connectors to highlight the key goals of the conference; creating a stronger network between LGBTQI activists by developing their media and technology skills. We enjoyed working with Astraea to craft iconic communications for the conference that increased the impact of the the client’s goals and vision. Additional materials in the campaign toolkit included printed guides, t-shirts, and banners. We look forward to continuing to help build the CommsLabs international program and increase social impact.
