WITH ALLIANCE FOR YOUTH GOOD FOOD

Research / Facilitation / Visioning / Strategy / Print + Digital Design

The Alliance for Youth Good Food is a group of Detroit-based organizations who have united to maximize the impact of good food programming for Detroit youth. The group first met in fall of 2019 to begin identifying opportunities to work together. With support from Co.Act Detroit, The Work Department was brought on in spring 2021 to facilitate the Alliance in further developing its goals, establishing a work plan for the year ahead, and developing an ecosystem map.

Over the course of four months, the Work Department met with the Alliance’s Steering Committee monthly and facilitated the Alliance partners two times. During those meetings, we:

  • Identified a survey and database tool to house the ecosystem map.

  • Developed and distributed the database survey.

  • Discussed the look, functionality, and hosting location of the final database.

  • Reviewed the goals developed in 2019 and refreshed them.

  • Identified priorities for the year ahead.

  • Discussed the Alliance’s structure and how partners would work together within it.

Our final deliverables included a one pager documenting the Alliance’s goals, a one year work plan outlining action steps, a template that provides a place for the Alliance to continue to document their organizational structure and operating guidelines, and an ecosystem map.

The ecosystem map acts as a database of organizations and programming focused on healthy food access for Detroit's youth that families, teachers, schools and other organizations can use to identify opportunities. It is hosted on AYGF member the Detroit Food Policy Council’s website. The database lives in Airtable, an online platform that allows for easy collaboration as well as many different views of the content. We provided the Alliance with a tutorial and instructional guide for use and maintenance to ensure it will be a functional tool for them.
