19th Annual Allied Media Conference
The 19th Annual Allied Media Conference (AMC) in Detroit was held from June 15 -18 this year. As the conference is nearing its 20th anniversary, we were over the moon to see the conference’s astonishing growth — over 2,500 participants and nearly 200 workshop leaders from across the United States and the world! This is special for us and to Detroit. The conference is a very unique space for individuals to meet and connect, and to share ideas to fuel relationships in a way that values accessibility and accommodations for all.
Our work with the AMC team includes collaborative design (process and products!) that is a continuation of our nearly 10 year partnership with Allied Media Projects. We contribute to the organization's growth by helping shape a range of projects, from a Guide to Digital Literacy, to the Detroit Future Schools rebrand, to People in Education.
Our job is to design materials and tools that facilitate the relationship building within the AMC. We work with Allied Media Projects at the conference’s earliest planning stages to build open-source conference planning tools that are accessible and allow for the open exchange of ideas between organizers.
This commitment to accessibility, while maintaining a fresh, fun design extends through the actual conference from web banners, design templates for wayfinding, large-scale banners, and even festive embroidered patches! We worked with the conference planning team this year to provide them easy-to-use templates so that they could create their own signage on an as-needed basis, reinforcing the commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.
We’re especially excited about the program book we designed this year. With ease-of-use at the forefront of our decision making, a spiral bind and plenty of spacious margins create more of a workbook feel, encouraging attendees to write down notes and contact information.
The AMC is a powerful crossroads of people and ideas. We take pride in our work with Allied Media Projects to create tools that support bold values to sustain a culture that's more just and creative. We look forward to the AMC’s 20th year in 2018 with much anticipation!
