In our partnership with the Detroit Environmental Agenda (DEA), we harnessed the power of our non-traditional management and design thinking methods to design a new organizational strategy, facilitate monthly meetings, and develop communications tools.
The DEA works to educate Detroit residents about environmental issues, share community concerns and needs with government, and ultimately advocate on behalf of Detroiters. We developed a leadership process to help them focus their collective energy toward these efforts. We began by co-creating operational and logistical management tools to improve the structure of how they work. These initial tools included improved meeting protocols and defined processes for new proposals and decision-making. Next, we designed hands-on activities to help DEA members refine and prioritize outcome-oriented plans. Finally, we designed communications tools, including a voter guide and updated website content, to help them expand their influence and embolden their voice to best address environmental justice issues across the City.
